• Manage cost incurred by the company including Pension Schemes, Payroll, Benefits and Travel Expenses
• Prepare Bi monthly Vat Returns/Monthly Financial Reports
• Contract and vendor management
• Research accounting issues and report presentations for management

'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' fires blanks

REVIEW: Grimm?s fairy tales have captivated TV viewers lately, and an equally large audience will probably lap up the campy 3-D extravaganza, "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters," ?when it opens in theaters this weekend. The picture was shot two years ago, but Paramount may have found the right moment to release the picture, in the dog days of January, when competition is thin. Young fanboys will sneak into the movie despite the R rating, but there isn?t much here to entice anyone with a bit of maturity. Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner seems out of place in this tacky pastiche, but hopefully the fat paycheck he received will allow him to return to artier fare very soon.

When you see the names of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay among the film?s producers, you know that the picture was never intended to be taken seriously. Lots of anachronisms and tongue-in-cheek dialogue establish the spoofy nature of this violent venture. All that?s missing is a genuine sense of wit.

The film begins by referring to the original fairy tale, when a young Hansel and Gretel are abandoned in the forest and venture into a witch?s cottage built of delicious candy. As they stalk their prey, brother and sister find allies -- a ?white witch? for Hansel and a troll who takes a fancy to Gretel -- but basically they have to rely on their own grit to triumph over their enemies. Their chief antagonist is a cunning vixen who morphs from glamorous to hideous when the mood strikes. This must be the year for screen beauties to indulge their ugly side. Famke Janssen follows Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron in releasing her hidden monster.

What Obama Wants and What Congress Will Give Him

President Obama offered a passionate defense of a progressive agenda in his inaugural address Monday, laying out the legislative priorities for the next four years that will likely be echoed in his State of the Union address next month. That includes unfinished business from his first term, such as immigration (which has a future in Congress) and climate change (which doesn?t). There was a pledge to protect the rights of gay citizens to marry (which may be decided by the Supreme Court) and to reduce the waiting time to vote (which may be decided by the states).

The people who hold the key to the president?s vision are the members of Congress with whom he will have to work. Here?s a look at how they might respond to his legislative proposals:

Climate change and sustainable energy: ?We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations,? Obama said, rehashing failed pieces of his first-term agenda. ?Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms," he added. Obama tried to push a sweeping cap-and-trade climate bill through Congress in his first term, but it died in the Senate in 2010. Since then, cap-and-trade has become politically toxic and is considered dead on arrival in Congress. The only way Obama could take action would be by using his executive authority to roll out controversial environmental regulations that would cut carbon pollution from existing coal plants. But that would generate massive push-back from industry and Environmental Protection Agency critics on Capitol Hill. At least Obama acknowledged that the path to sustainable energy ?will be long and sometimes difficult.?

Immigration reform: The president has made no secret of the fact that he is going to make comprehensive immigration reform a top priority of his second term. There is some bipartisan support, especially in the Senate, for legislation, but several sticking points remain. Lawmakers disagree on whether there should be a path to citizenship or merely legal status for illegal immigrants, and whether it should be presented as a comprehensive bill or several smaller pieces of legislation. And for immigration reform to pass in the House, Speaker John Boehner might have to violate the Hastert rule and bring legislation to the floor without the majority backing of his conference. Obama voiced support for one specific policy, arguing that immigration reform would be incomplete ?until bright young students and engineers are enlisted in our workforce rather than expelled from our country.? Easing the path to citizenship for high-skilled workers enjoys broad bipartisan support in the House and Senate, but will get caught up in the debate about the size of legislation.

Equal pay for women:??For our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers, and daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts,? Obama said Monday. In 2009 Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, and with so much else on the agenda now, it?s hard to imagine the president expending much more energy on this issue in the next four years, let alone Congress. To wit, Republicans?last year blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would have beefed up protections for women in the workplace. The law has long been considered problematic in the business community because it would open employers up to lawsuits for situations that may not be well defined, like the definition of "fair pay."

Voting reform: Obama said that the country?s ?journey? would not be complete "until no citizen is forced to wait for hours to exercise the right to vote.? It?s also a pledge he made during his acceptance speech on election night, telling the voters who waited in long lines that ?we have to fix that.? But the president is largely powerless to invoke change on this issue because the nitty-gritty of the voting process is the jurisdiction of state and local governments. Although some Democrats, including Sens. Barbara Boxer of California and Chris Coons of Delaware, introduced legislation to address long wait times, those efforts are likely to be blocked by a generation of Republicans elected on the promise to protect the 10^th Amendment and states? rights.

Gay rights: Obama said that his work would not be complete ?until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law -- for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.? The administration will go head-to-head with Congress this year on the issue of gay marriage. Nearly two years ago, Obama ordered the Justice Department to stop defending the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act. Boehner announced shortly thereafter that the House of Representatives would take up defense of the law. A lawsuit, United States v. Windsor,has made its way to the Supreme Court, which has scheduled arguments for March. An affirmation of the administration?s position could pave the way for Obama to move more aggressively on gay marriage, which he now supports. If the courts do not back up his decision to no longer defend DOMA, he is unlikely to get sufficient support from Congress to repeal the law. Any further efforts to boost workplace protections for gays and lesbians in discrimination statutes have been blocked in Congress so far.

Unspoken agenda:?The irony is that Obama spent more time talking about issues he will have a hard time moving the needle on than the issues sitting on his near-term agenda. Among them, several more rounds of fiscal battles that threaten to crowd out Obama?s second-term agenda won only passing reference.?Obama said, ?We must make the hard choices to reduce the cost of health care and the size of our deficit? before defending Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid as commitments that strengthen the country. He offered perhaps one hint the he could be more likely to cut Medicare than insurance subsidies when he said, ?we reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future.?

Also absent from Obama?s remarks was any mention of guns, although he did say that Americans' won?t be complete until all children, including those from Newtown, know they are cared for. Education and investments in infrastructure similarly got short shrift, and health reform received no explicit shout-out even though its implementation is likely to be among the most significant changes that occur during his second term.

One word that could dominate the first 100 days of Obama?s second term was not even mentioned once: debt.?

Let?s talk a bit about creating high quality audio and video content. Identifying your audience is quite possibly the most crucial component of creating your content. Without identifying a target audience, your message may not reach its intended destination, or even worse, it may convey a different message than originally intended, which could easily mislead listeners or viewers.

How does one identify their target audience? We like to begin by asking the following questions:

What are you selling?

Is it clear what your product or service does?

What is the idea or message you wish to communicate?

?and most importantly, who is the buyer?

Remember, the goal is to effectively communicate with your audience and their peers. This may require a bit of research within the specific demographic or demographics you wish to reach.

The next step in creating high quality audio and video content is to structure your message to target your audience. Tailoring your message for each individual demographic you wish to reach is the absolute best way to reach your audience.?

If you have a single demographic, this may be a very easy step. If you have many demographics you?re intending to reach, this will require a bit more customization.

A great example of a campaign reaching out to dozens of different demographics comes to us in the form of Motown legend Barry Gordy?s Son and Grandson, better known as popular music group LMFAO and their debut single ?I?m In Miami Trick?, which was released in 2008 with over 50 different versions created for individual cities, festivals and countries. To accomplish this amazing feat, they recorded the name of the city, festival etc. and replaced the word ?Miami? in the chorus with the specific demographic they were intending to reach. Needless to say, this level of customization garnered them massive amounts of radio play, concert tours and aided in their rise to international stardom shortly thereafter.

When thinking about branding your audio or video we?ll always want to put ourselves in the place of our listeners or viewers by making sure that the brand resonates with our audience during each and every step of the process.

Because brand recognition affects listeners and viewers on a subconscious level, the best branding will always be instantly recognizable through combinations of audible tones, colors, fonts and shapes.

There are several easy ways to consistently reinforce your brand within audio and video content, such as:

Creating custom audio and video players or themes which represent your brand. Inserting your logo or brand imagery either within or near your audio or video and including custom branded short links leading back to your site. A really great service for this last step is bit.ly b-i-t-dot-l-y.

Remember, the majority of sales are made when buyers are excited about a brand.

How does one excite newcomers about their brand? Start by connecting with them on a personal level. When broadcasting your audio or video, taking advantage of your current web traffic is the easiest way to begin. Placing dynamic, brand-reinforced audio and video to a website, blog or landing page is an essential first step in connecting with your current web traffic. Make sure to place audio and video players above the fold to ensure maximum visibility. If your audience has to scroll or click around to locate your audio or video, you?re guaranteed to lose a percentage of potential plays.?

It?s also important to note that placing audio or video on the home page of your website which plays automatically is a big deterrent. Doing so will turn many visitors away and can cause embarrassment or potentially bigger issues if your visitors are in public or at work. Instead, allow your visitors to make the decision to press play for themselves, on their own terms.

Next, bring your message to your audience. No one visits every website on a consistent basis. If you have a new audio or video to share with your audience, make sure to include links to listen or download when sending out your next email or newsletter mailing.

Social networks are another great place to have your message heard by people from all around the world. Each network is different, and so should be your method of delivery. The best way to ensure that people click through to play your content is to include written prompts in your update to watch and listen.

Here?s a really great example of a video I recently shared on my Facebook timeline. Notice how there is a direct prompt urging my friends and subscribers to watch the video? Also, if people don?t see an image or player on Facebook, they?re a lot less likely to watch or listen. Make sure your message is tailored for each specific network form maximum engagement and speaks to the specific media type.

When thinking about how to generate leads from audio and video content, we must first turn our attention to cultivating an organic discussion with those who are consuming our content. In order for your audience to engage with your content, there must be an easily accessible, familiar way to do so.

Begin on your Website or Blog by enabling comments for discussion and including social media sharing tools. Take it a step further by letting your audience share their voice by using personalized reply or testimonial lines. Through the latter of these options, you can easily let your audience hear the excitement in both your own and others voices.

Remember, as each new audio or video comes to life, make sure to engage with your friends, fans and followers by sharing your content on the social networks you?re currently active within, and make sure to ask for feedback.

After cultivating organic discussion the next step is to nurture the online relationships which sprout up along the way. The number one thing you can do to engage with your audience is to be a good listener. Do not push your own agenda first. Do follow-up when someone comments, shares your links or retweets you. It is important to respond in a timely manner and thank them for spreading the love. Always remember to return the favor when possible.

A good policy is to lead by example. Connect with your audience via their platforms and they will be infinitely more likely to do the same for you and your business. If this were a college class, it would be titled, ?How to Get More Followers 101?

A great example of this is to follow twitter users who follow you. Like facebook fan pages which have liked yours. Help out in promoting events and causes which you believe in. A little interaction goes a long way!

'Quadruple helix' DNA discovered in human cells

In 1953, Cambridge researchers Watson and Crick published a paper describing the interweaving 'double helix' DNA structure - the chemical code for all life.

Now, in the year of that scientific landmark's 60th Anniversary, Cambridge researchers have published a paper proving that four-stranded 'quadruple helix' DNA structures - known as G-quadruplexes - also exist within the human genome. They form in regions of DNA that are rich in the building block guanine, usually abbreviated to 'G'.

The findings mark the culmination of over 10 years investigation by scientists to show these complex structures in vivo - in living human cells - working from the hypothetical, through computational modelling to synthetic lab experiments and finally the identification in human cancer cells using fluorescent biomarkers.

The research, published today in Nature Chemistryand funded by Cancer Research UK, goes on to show clear links between concentrations of four-stranded quadruplexes and the process of DNA replication, which is pivotal to cell division and production.

By targeting quadruplexes with synthetic molecules that trap and contain these DNA structures - preventing cells from replicating their DNA and consequently blocking cell division - scientists believe it may be possible to halt the runaway cell proliferation at the root of cancer.

"We are seeing links between trapping the quadruplexes with molecules and the ability to stop cells dividing, which is hugely exciting," said Professor Shankar Balasubramanian from the University of Cambridge's Department of Chemistry and Cambridge Research Institute, whose group produced the research.

"The research indicates that quadruplexes are more likely to occur in genes of cells that are rapidly dividing, such as cancer cells. For us, it strongly supports a new paradigm to be investigated - using these four-stranded structures as targets for personalised treatments in the future."

Physical studies over the last couple of decades had shown that quadruplex DNA can form in vitro - in the 'test tube', but the structure was considered to be a curiosity rather than a feature found in nature. The researchers now know for the first time that they actually form in the DNA of human cells.

"This research further highlights the potential for exploiting these unusual DNA structures to beat cancer ? the next part of this pipeline is to figure out how to target them in tumour cells," said Dr Julie Sharp, senior science information manager at Cancer Research UK.

"It's been sixty years since its structure was solved but work like this shows us that the story of DNA continues to twist and turn."

The study published today was led by Giulia Biffi, a researcher in Balasubramaninan's lab at the Cambridge Research Institute.

By building on previous research, Biffi was able to generate antibody proteins that detect and bind to areas in a human genome rich in quadruplex-structured DNA, proving their existence in living human cells.

Using fluorescence to mark the antibodies, the researchers could then identify 'hot spots' for the occurrence of four-stranded DNA - both where in the genome and, critically, at what stage of cell division.

While quadruplex DNA is found fairly consistently throughout the genome of human cells and their division cycles, a marked increase was shown when the fluorescent staining grew more intense during the 's-phase' - the point in a cell cycle where DNA replicates before the cell divides.

Cancers are usually driven by genes called oncogenes that have mutated to increase DNA replication - causing cell proliferation to spiral out of control, and leading to tumour growth.

The increased DNA replication rate in oncogenes leads to an intensity in the quadruplex structures. This means that potentially damaging cellular activity can be targeted with synthetic molecules or other forms of treatments.

"We have found that by trapping the quadruplex DNA with synthetic molecules we can sequester and stabilise them, providing important insights into how we might grind cell division to a halt," said Balasubramanian.

"There is a lot we don't know yet. One thought is that these quadruplex structures might be a bit of a nuisance during DNA replication - like knots or tangles that form.

"Did they evolve for a function? It's a philosophical question as to whether they are there by design or not - but they exist and nature has to deal with them. Maybe by targeting them we are contributing to the disruption they cause."

The study showed that if an inhibitor is used to block DNA replication, quadruplex levels go down - proving the idea that DNA is dynamic, with structures constantly being formed and unformed.

The researchers also previously found that an overactive gene with higher levels of Quadruplex DNA is more vulnerable to external interference.

"The data supports the idea that certain cancer genes can be usefully interfered with by small molecules designed to bind specific DNA sequences," said Balasubramanian.

"Many current cancer treatments attack DNA, but it's not clear what the rules are. We don't even know where in the genome some of them react - it can be a scattergun approach.

"The possibility that particular cancer cells harbouring genes with these motifs can now be targeted, and appear to be more vulnerable to interference than normal cells, is a thrilling prospect.

"The 'quadruple helix' DNA structure may well be the key to new ways of selectively inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells. The confirmation of its existence in human cells is a real landmark."

3 Americans die in Algeria attack, 7 survive

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Three U.S. citizens were killed in last week's hostage standoff at a natural gas complex in Algeria, while seven Americans made it out safely, Obama administration officials said Monday.

The State Department confirmed that gas workers Victor Lynn Lovelady and Gordon Lee Rowan were killed at the Ain Amenas field in the Sahara. U.S. officials identified Texas resident Frederick Buttaccio as the first death last week.

"I'm glad we were able to get some rescued, but we did lose three Americans," Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said as he was leaving the Capitol, where he attended President Barack Obama's second inauguration. "That just tells us that al-Qaida is committed to creating terror wherever they are and we've got to fight back."

A U.S. official had told The Associated Press earlier Monday that the FBI had recovered Lovelady's and Rowan's bodies and notified their families. The official had no details on how the Americans died, and their hometowns were not released.

Militants who attacked Ain Amenas had offered to release Lovelady and Rowan in exchange for the freedom of two prominent terror suspects jailed in the United States: Omar Abdel Rahman, a blind sheik convicted of plotting to blow up New York City landmarks and considered the spiritual leader of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist convicted of shooting at two U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

The Obama administration rejected the offer outright.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the U.S. was still working with Algeria's government to gain a fuller understanding of the attack and to enhance their counterterrorism cooperation in future.

"We extend our deepest condolences to their families and friends," she said in a statement. "The blame for this tragedy rests with the terrorists who carried it out, and the United States condemns their actions in the strongest possible terms."

Last week's desert siege began Wednesday when Mali-based, al-Qaida-linked militants attempted to hijack two buses at the plant, were repelled, and then seized the gas refinery. They said the attack was retaliation for France's recent military intervention against Islamist rebels in neighboring Mali, but the captured militants told Algerian officials it took two months to plan.

Five Americans had been taken out of the country before Saturday's final assault by Algerian forces against the militants.

The U.S. official said the remaining two Americans survived the four-day crisis at an insecure oil rig at the facility. They were flown out to London on Saturday.

The State Department's Nuland confirmed that seven Americans made it out safely, but said she couldn't provide further details because of privacy considerations.

Algeria says 38 hostages of all nationalities and 29 militants died in the standoff. Five foreign workers remain unaccounted for.

Lovelady, 57, worked at Ain Amenas as a project manager for the Houston-based energy firm ENGlobal Corporation, said CEO William A. Coskey. Rowan's employer wasn't immediately known.

Obama Promises Climate Change Action

President Obama's inauguration speech was broad, as such addresses tend to be, but he got specific when it came to climate change.

In his second inaugural address, the president mentioned the recent wave of severe weather that some have linked to global warming. From his address, as prepared for delivery:

We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations. Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms.

The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition; we must lead it. We cannot cede to other nations the technology that will power new jobs and new industries - we must claim its promise. That is how we will maintain our economic vitality and our national treasure - our forests and waterways; our croplands and snowcapped peaks. That is how we will preserve our planet, commanded to our care by God. That's what will lend meaning to the creed our fathers once declared.

Talking about climate change as a pressing issue is a new thing for a presidential inaugural address. Obama made passing mention of it four years ago, during his first inaugural address in 2009, and Bill Clinton mentioned the environment.

"With old friends and former foes, we'll work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat and roll back the specter of a warming planet," Obama said four years ago. But today's mention seems to be the most extended case for action on climate change in any inaugural address in recent history.

Climate change was a huge part of Obama's presidential agenda, until it got derailed midway through his first term.

When Obama came into office, his legislative agenda included three major pillars - health care, energy, and education reform - as advertised by staffers at Organizing for America, the post-campaign apparatus tasked with pushing his priorities through Congress. As we saw, only health care got through Congress.

A climate-change bill, in fact, helped sink Democrats in 2010.

As prospects looked murkier for a climate bill in the slow-footed Senate, then-House-Speaker Nancy Pelosi called a vote on a climate bill that included a cap-and-trade system for limiting carbon emissions. It passed, 219 to 212, on June 26, 2009, with 211 Democrats voting in favor.

Energy reform ultimately stalled in the Senate, and the House vote proved a major political liability: Republican candidates, party committees, and outside groups hammered Democrats across the country for supporting the "cap and tax" agenda, decrying the idea of taxing businesses for emissions in a bad economy. Without action in the Senate, the Democrats' climate push proved costly politically: Democrats lost enough House seats in 2010 to hand the majority over to Republicans.

Heading into Obama's second term, near-term action on energy seems unlikely. Republicans still hold the House majority, and the makeup of the Senate has not changed significantly, meaning the prospects of energy reform have actually dimmed since the effort failed in 2009 and 2010 - when Democrats controlled both houses.

Obama's inaugural address may not signal that he intends to push legislation through Congress, unless Democrats can retake the House of Representatives, but it comes at a peculiar moment for climate-change politics: Superstorm Sandy confirmed to some that climate change is a real, tangible threat that requires immediate action, even though the legislative numbers don't quite add up.

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) ? The death toll from the terrorist siege at a natural gas plant in the Sahara climbed past 80 on Sunday as Algerian forces searching the refinery for explosives found dozens more bodies, many so badly disfigured it was unclear whether they were hostages or militants, a security official said.

Algerian special forces stormed the plant on Saturday to end the four-day siege, moving in to thwart what government officials said was a plot by the Islamic extremists to blow up the complex and kill all their captives with mines sown throughout the site.

In a statement, the Masked Brigade, the group that claimed to have masterminded the takeover, warned of more such attacks against any country backing France's military intervention in neighboring Mali, where the French are trying to stop an advance by Islamic extremists.

"We stress to our Muslim brothers the necessity to stay away from all the Western companies and complexes for their own safety, and especially the French ones," the statement said.

Algeria said after Saturday's assault by government forces that at least 32 extremists and 23 hostages were killed. On Sunday, Algerian bomb squads sent in to blow up or defuse the explosives found 25 more bodies, said the security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

"These bodies are difficult to identify. They could be the bodies of foreign hostages or Algerians or terrorists," the official said.

In addition, a wounded Romanian who had been evacuated died, raising the overall death toll to at least 81.

"Now, of course, people will ask questions about the Algerian response to these events, but I would just say that the responsibility for these deaths lies squarely with the terrorists who launched a vicious and cowardly attack," British Prime Minister David Cameron said. Three Britons were killed and another three were feared dead.

The dead hostages were also known to include at least one American as well as Filipino and French workers. Nearly two dozen foreigners by some estimates were unaccounted for.

It was unclear whether anyone was rescued in the final assault on the complex, which is run by the Algerian state oil company along with BP and Norway's Statoil.

Two private Algerian TV stations and an online news site said security forces scouring the plant found five militants hiding out and learned that three others had fled. That information could not be immediately confirmed by security officials.

Authorities said the bloody takeover was carried out Wednesday by 32 men from six countries, under the command from afar of the one-eyed Algerian bandit Moktar Belmoktar, founder of the Masked Brigade, based in Mali. The attacking force called itself "Those Who Sign in Blood."

The Masked Brigade said Sunday the attack was payback against Algeria for allowing over-flights of French aircraft headed to Mali and for closing its long border with Mali. In an earlier communication, the Brigade claimed to have carried out the attack in the name of al-Qaida.

Armed with heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, missiles and grenades, the militants singled out foreign workers at the plant, killing some of them on the spot and attaching explosive belts to others.

Algeria's tough and uncompromising response to the crisis was typical of its take-no-prisoners approach in confronting terrorists, favoring military action over negotiation. Algerian military forces, backed by attack helicopters, launched two assaults on the plant, the first one on Thursday.

The militants had "decided to succeed in the operation as planned, to blow up the gas complex and kill all the hostages," Algerian Communications Minister Mohamed Said told state radio.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said the terrorists had tried to blow up the plant on Saturday but managed only to start a small fire. "That's when they started to execute hostages, and the special forces intervened," Eide said. Norway's Statoil said five Norwegians were still missing.

An audio recording of Algerian security forces speaking with the head of the kidnappers, Abdel Rahman al-Nigiri, on the second day of the drama indicated the hostage-takers were trying to organize a prisoner swap.

"You see our demands are so easy, so easy if you want to negotiate with us," al-Nigiri said in the recording broadcast by Algerian television. "We want the prisoners you have, the comrades who were arrested and imprisoned 15 years ago. We want 100 of them."

In another phone call, al-Nigiri said that half the militants had been killed by the Algerian army on Thursday and that he was ready to blow up the remaining hostages if security forces attacked again. An organization that monitors videos from radicals posted one showing al-Nigiri with what appeared to be an explosive belt around his waist.

The Algerians' use of forced raised an international outcry from some countries worried about their citizens.

But French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Sunday on French television: "The terrorists ... they're the ones to blame."

David Plouffe, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said that al-Qaida and al-Qaida-affiliated groups remain a threat in North Africa and other parts of the world, and that the U.S. is determined to help other countries destroy those networks.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Plouffe said the tragedy in Algeria shows once again "that all across the globe countries are threatened by terrorists who will use civilians to try and advance their twisted and sick agenda."
