TE Chris Cooley rejoins Washington to replace injured Fred Davis

Tight end Chris Cooley confirmed to The Washington Post on Monday that he passed his physical and has rejoined Washington as a replacement for Fred Davis, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on Sunday.

Washington released the 28-year-old Cooley in August. He worked out for other teams but did not sign.

Davis went down in the first half of his team?s loss to the Giants on Sunday. Davis was the team?s leading receiver with 23 catches for 312 yards entering Sunday?s game.

?I didn?t know what it was right away,? Davis said. ?I have never experienced anything like that. I was unable to walk and then I knew something really was wrong.?

Cooley is the franchise leader in receptions by a tight end. Two years ago, he caught 77 passes for 849 yards and three touchdowns.?He had 428 catches for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns during his first eight years with the team.
