The mayor of a small town in northwest Missouri has been removed from office after a judge found she'd violated the state ban on nepotism.
The Platte County prosecutor's office says Rita Rhoads, mayor of Tracy, was removed from office Friday by Circuit Judge Owens Lee Hull Jr.
Hull heard testimony Friday regarding allegations that Rhoads paid her son-in-law $100 to fix a city sign despite the state law that prohibits public officers from hiring relatives.
Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd filed a lawsuit July 9 to remove Rhoads from office because of the allegations.
Rhoads had been mayor of Tracy, a town of about 200 residents, since 2008.
A message left with Rhoads' lawyer wasn't immediately returned Friday. Calls to a phone listed under Rhoads' name also weren't answered.
